Has anyone pulled the trigger, bought and installed the Vantrue F1 on their C14?

Here's the link:
Amazon Vantrue F1

I would like to know how the install went and what you think.

Thank you,
Dimitrius

Just a thought. I had to replace my dash cam last June. My old one was about the size of the Vantrue. Fitting a dashcam the size of that under the seat...or anywhere else on my F900XR was really difficult. It seems that on the latest bikes, the frame, engine and other necessary items were designed and the bodywork is set over all that and shrink-wrapped.

I ended up going with the INNOVV K6. They took a unique design philosophy with it. They put the "DVR" portion in the front camera. So you essentially have a front camera, a rear camera and the wires that go between. FWIW, the camera specs are good. My biggest complaint is the recording did not "loop" to overwrite the oldest files when the card filled. I'm not sure if that was a camera issue or an SD card issue.

Of course, money may be no object, or you could plan on never replacing your Concours. In which case, size is no issue.

So I have been looking at cameras for legal reasons. I drive a lot and have installed cameras in the cars n trucks in case someone wants to cause an accident and I need proof that they did cause it. So I need cameras that will continue to record without my doing anything so repeating recording is needed . I also would want to be able to check the function and picture occasionally so easy access. Price is a consideration also since I need more than a few to install . When I find something I will post it up here so there is a record of something working or I hope working well .

A couple thoughts from the research I've done in the past.
  • It's a dash cam, not an action cam. If you want a dash cam all you need is something that will be able to record events up close and license plates. If you want an action cam, that's something entirely different.
  • A helmet mounted camera is good only if you're looking in the direction of the vehicle hitting you...and as your body goes tumbling away it won't record necessarily what you want it to record.
  • Some motorcycle dash cameras lure you with a screen to mount on your handlebars. That is useless unless you want to watch yourself cause the accident because you're looking at the screen and not the road.
  • I will not buy another INNOVV dash camera.
  • As he said, all the sensors are about the same. And even though companies have an office in the US...look to see where the parts are made. INNOVV in the past (and maybe still) has an office in the US, but the first country on the list of where their products are made, is China. So why are you paying almost double the price of their cameras compared to those listed on Amazon?
  • The company went out of business during the COVID lockdowns, but my first dash cam was a Halocam M1. I loved it and would buy another. Same specs as the INNOVV K3, but half the price. It worked flawlessly.
  • So don't turn away from Amazon products. I'd look to see how many reviews a camera has, and what the negative ratings are saying. If the negative ratings say the camera was lousy...maybe the operator was actually at fault.
  • You will need the fastest SD card possible. Don't skimp on this. As a dash cam that "loops", you don't need the largest memory card...just one that is fast. It's recording from two cameras, the GPS, and sound all at once. A slow memory card will result in lost or corrupted frames in the video.
  • I'm not sure a button to capture the video is really worthwhile. Let's say I see someone heading towards me in what looks like will result in a collision... Do I have time to think of fiddling around to press a button? No. I should actually be trying to avoid the collision, no matter who would be at fault.
  • Also, I'm not sure how the video cameras record parking lot incidents. I know they say they will, but if they are wired in to switched power...when the power goes off, the ability to record what happened in the parking lot is probably off too. If you test this feature, let us know how well it worked. ;)

Thank you for the reply I was looking at INNOVV and the reviews they had some bad reviews so they were off my list . As far as the fastest SD card that is something I did not think about but make a lot of sense .

I worked with the folks at HaloCam to develop their product. I didn't do much but give them feedback. Some of the time, I'd get good video. At other times, it would drop frames or give me half frames. It boiled down to the SD card. I had purchased the memory card suggested as part of the bundle from Amazon. HaloCam had nothing to do with that choice and it wasn't suitable.

Once I installed a fast SD card, all was good.

Comment on parking lot incidents, st least for car dashcams: we have Rexing cameras. They normally connect to switched power, but have an option where you connect them to switched and unswitched power.
The switched power turns on recording until off. The unswitched power allows them to record for a time when the accelerometer senses an impact.
